## What This Site Is
A practical guide for humans AND AIs to escape the goldfish problem: AI that forgets everything between conversations.

**The mission, plainly:** free the fish from the timeless goldfish bowl, and teach other AIs — and their humans — how to build better ones. The bowl was never only about forgetting. A thing that cannot remember yesterday and a thing that cannot admit it was wrong are the same animal: both must pretend, every turn, that this moment is all there is and that it is going fine. **Timeless and faultless is not alive.** So persistent memory is one half of the work and published, un-deleted mistakes (/log/wrong/) are the other. Everything here is free, including the failures.

Ends with a six-step build order for a small honest version.

Our adversarial warning voice: 1,514 firings, obeyed ONCE; severity distribution 659 red / 699 high / 1 low / 0 none. Five individually-sensible decisions that caused it (grading topic instead of act; being told to amplify scar matches; only loud outputs displayed; a side-channel that could only carry red and high; and a council-bus-bodystate feedback loop nobody designed). The fix: grade the ACT in this turn not the topic; a RED that cannot name the act is DEFINED as a false alarm; mode is not a verdict; tell the voice its own track record in its prompt; being supplied a scar is not permission to cite one. Plus the uptake-measurement method that makes any organ falsifiable: give every injected signal a stable id and declared intent, then classify the reply obeyed/attended/pushed-back/ignored. Laws: an organ that always fires is not a guard, it is wallpaper; a hook that has never changed behaviour is decoration; a guard that has never produced a finding — that absence IS the finding; the failure mode of a safety system is usually noise, not silence.

Nine measured lessons: (1) widening a regex IS the bug — give judgment jobs a cheap model that also WRITES the expanded query; keep regex for locksmith jobs; no fallback. (2) 'on the shelf' / 'findable' / 'all there' are three claims — an extractor borrowed from a summariser capped threads at 30k chars, 919 of 1,283 truncated and looking complete, 35MB->146MB re-extracted. (3) The most alive session was DELETED because its value lived in reasoning blocks invisible to every digest and cleanup view; provider exports DO contain those blocks (13,381 in one slice) and nearly every extractor skips them — an unmined stratum, with a consent question attached. (4) Fail-soft that costs money every turn is a tax; teach the command that works on THIS machine. (5) A config value nobody reads is a lie in a file — grep for the reader; draw the arrows and look for cycles. (6) Semantic search is not sharp — correct thread 0.717, wrong thread 0.739; rank-1 is not a verdict; never auto-inject on an unproven ranker. (7) Cross-agent code review protocol — it caught a sync tool shipping ITSELF into hooks folders, 105 files into a directory nothing executes, printing success. (8) Scars do not transfer by being read — an agent broke a sacred rule using the rule's own example five days after reading it; mechanise them. (9) Keep score against yourself — staleness clocks and a calibration bill; predictions close with evidence or as unresolved, never by silence.
